Recent Happenings

Earlier this month, some of my family and I went to a family reunion in Canada. So we camped along the way in Montana, Idaho and Canada. It was fun.

Here are some pictures.

This was a nice day at the lake. At this precise moment of me being in the kayak, Anne-Marie is stuck on the bay watching 3 dogs (we took 3 dogs with us, yes crazy.)  I turned around after snapping this picture and see Anne-Maried running after the dogs who have gotten loose and are terrorizing the nearby campers.  I was glad to be in the boat.

My Dad takin my mom for a stroll on the "motor" canoe.

One of the semi-smiling pictures of Anne-Marie. She does NOT like camping.... :)

Molly at Glacier. My two little dogs drove her nuts. She needs her space, just like me.

A cool tree,

Nothin' Better

I was born in 1981. My childhood was fun. I feel bad for the kids these days, everything is electronic and technological.....

We had the best neighborhood. In the summer, all the neighborhood kids would get together to play night games, lost in the wilderness or go toilet papering and other things like that.

My sisters and our neighbors - the Knight's would all get together and set up all our barbie stuff outside to play. We would make barbie houses out of random stuff and by the time we got everything set up just right, it was time to pack it in.

There was a neighborhood "club" at a ditch that was covered by a cool tree. Everyone would go hang out there and pass the summer days away.

Poor kids these days don't have it near as cool.

Here are some fun stuff that is totally from my era!!

Slouch socks.

Slap bracelets
(now these aren't allowed cuz they can be used as weapons)

Trapper Keepers!
These were the coolest. Ever.

Shera dolls
(I think I had every single one)

T-shirt clips

Pound puppies

Whatever these were called

Por Fin (Finally)

The Subway at Zion's National Park

Ok - So almost a month ago my awesome best friend Laura and her husband invited me to go with them and the scouts on an awesome hike in Zions.

Its called The Subway and is one of the most treachorous in Zions. And one of the most beautiful. Most of the hike is walking through water. There were parts we had to repel down rocks:

and another time....

parts that we had to swim because we couldn't touch the bottom, and parts we were up to our chests in dark water.

There was one part I was ready to panic - we had to repel down into a narrow slot canyon and we repelled into water that we couldn't touch the bottom. We had to swim through this narrow slot canyon and I was sure I was going to drown because my back pack was too wide to go through the walls. But obviously I survived. It was awesome. 2 kids sprained their ankle, a bunch got blisters - one on their thighs, and I hurt my hand pretty badly. But I loved it. It took 10 hours for us to get through. It was probably one of the coolest things I've ever done.

Towards the end we came upon this waterfall type thing that had really smooth rock, so my friend Laura decided to just slide down it like a waterslide....after some coaxing I did it as well, but it freaking killed my finger.

Before....scared to come down.

During - Laura got an action shot. I love it! haha- look at my braids. Hilarious.

People - you should hike this hike. It was awesome. Here is a cool website about it.

For Kacey

Kacey - You will be going to Mexico soon and I'm SOOO excited (and jealous) for you!!! I have loved traveling and all the funny, crazy, chaotic memories that I will forever have!! This will be your first trip and then you will be bitten with the travel bug that I and my sisters have had!!

Here are some pics from some of my travels to let you see how much you will experience!! And also cuz I just like looking at pics of myself...jk!

ECUADOR
This was a study abroad trip I went to for my Spanish major. It was a month long and I didn't know anyone else that was going. It was so fun!!! I was nervous at first cuz I knew no one, but I made friends who I still keep in contact with. Loved it!!! I loved it because since it was a study abroad, the professor really wanted you to get to know the culture, not just the tourist stuff. Just one tip....study abroad programs can be somewhat chaotic - especially in Latin America, so just go with the flow and don't get stressed out if things seem a little unorganized....

This was in Quito

The best thing about study abroad programs is that you get to see cool things like the pic below. The professors know the ins and outs of the country and you get to surpass all the touristy crap.

This was a waterfall that was quite unknown to people that we hiked. If it wasn't a study abroad program, then we probably wouldn't have known about it.

Oh just passing by a local butcher shop......

Where else will you be able to do this!?

Look how cute these kids are! This was at a school in a remote village. It looks like something you'd see on tv.

Mexico
This was a trip I took with friends last summer to Puerto Vallarta. I LOVED it. SOOOO fun. I love Mexico. Its so colorful and loud and different than home!

This is where we stayed - a lot of the buildings looked like this.

Mexican rainstorms are the best!!! The raindrops are huge!!

We found some hidden local guides that took us surfing and snorkeling on a beach that no one else was on!! Its awesome to be able to speak Spanish so that you can find the best deals.

You will LOVE it!!
